Small, local businesses

For small businesses located in Norwich and the immediate surrounding areas, our fees start at £50. If you only have a small office or shop with a minimal number of appliances, this may be all you will pay! Why not give Kevin a call or send an email through for a more accurate quotation? Larger businesses

Repairs

Reedsafe can undertake repairs to some electrical appliances. We carry stock of illuminated switches for certain makes of glass washers, dish washers, hot cupboards and vacuum cleaners. We can also replaced the flex on some makes of vacuum cleaners and power tools. If you would like a quote for these kinds of repairs, please email us and include a snap of the faulty part / device.

Reedsafe know savy customers will be shopping around for quotes. Ensure you will get • A FULL inspection and test. Many companies are doing nothing more than a quick visual inspection on appliances. Kevin is very often called in to “do the job properly” following a visit by an engineer who has done nothing more than walked around the premises sticking labels on appliances and ticking a box on their test sheet that says “visual only” - this is MONEY FOR OLD ROPE and potentially leaves you exposed to dangerous equipment. If your PAT quote sounds too cheap - this is likely to be what you will get. Reedsafe will properly inspect your appliances, dismantling plugs to check for tight, correctly wired terminations, correct fuse rating and evidence of over heating. Reedsafe will visually inspect the appliance flex and case then, using our specialist test equipment, perform the required electrical tests. Only then can you be sure your appliances are safe. • Microwave oven emission tests. We do not charge extra for performing an emission test on your microwave ovens whilst undertaking your PAT testing. Some companies charge up to £15 extra per oven! • Repairs! We have seen some companies FAIL and discard an appliance simply because a new plug was required. ALL OUR QUOTES INCLUDE A QUANTITY OF FREE PLUG CHANGES AND REPLACEMENT FUSES. The only condition is that this does not become excessive - if it does, we will only charge cost price for plugs (currently 85p for a standard 3, 5 or 13 amp fused plug) or 25p for a fuse. Rewiring a plug is free as is shortening an existing flex if damaged. We have seen some companies bumping up the invoices by charging £3+ for a new plug. • A computer generated certificate of testing. Quite often we are given the last inspectors “test certificate” to use as a guide at a new customers premises and quite often this is nothing more than a few sheets of A4 paper with a very basic handwritten list of appliances tested. No identification of each asset and no electrical test readings. Reedsafe will always issue a computer generated set of easy to understand certificates. Our certificates comprise a cover sheet detailing your company name and address, a certificate of testing which can be displayed if required, a copy of our test equipments calibration certificate and most importantly, a full equipment record log. For each appliance we list an asset number, full description (make, model and serial number where possible), location of appliance, pass / fail status, date of test, suggested retest date and of course, the electrical inspection readings. Our certificates are supplied as PDF’s and sent by email, usually within 24 hours of completing your testing. Incidentally - any company or engineer advising a PASS label is as good as a certificate is misleading you! Labels are attached for identification purposes only. They are not a proof of testing. • Finally, a friendly and competent engineer! With Reedsafe, Kevin will be the person performing your testing. Kevin served as an apprentice when he left school and that was when he first undertook training to safely and competently perform a PAT inspection. After a few years out of the trade, in 2002 Kevin updated his skills and knowledge at Norwich City College before establishing Reedsafe. Since then, Kevin has always updated his knowledge of the latest requirements of each subsequent issue of The IET Code of Practice for In- Service Inspection and Test of Electrical Appliances. In addition, Kevin’s years of experience have been utilised by several manufacturers of PAT test equipment to give input on new devices, feedback on existing devices including field use of prototype testers.
