REEDSAFE - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Rather than constantly hammering away at your favourite search engine, the easiest way to find answers to

your queries is often to phone or email! Either way, here are a selection of commonly asked questions.

Question?

I’ve been told I need to organise PAT testing at our premises. What exactly is PAT testing?

Question?

Why use Reedsafe?

Answer:

Importantly, you can be assured of a quality, reliable, co-operative and discreet service from a qualified engineer who will treat your business, appliances and colleagues with respect and complete confidentiality. The engineer visiting your premises will be Kevin - the owner / operator of Reedsafe. No contractors will be used, no jobs will be "sold on" - you have a one person point of contact from the moment you ask Reedsafe for a quote right through the undertaking of the testing and on to the generation of the certificate and invoice. Kevin is a sole trader - my customers would appear to like the consistency and trust they get when they see the same face each year. Kevin rapidly gains an understanding of your business, its individual requirements, quirks and layout. It also means if you phone Kevin on the mobile, you won't be put on hold or passed from department to department and should you have a problem, the buck stops here. Who else could be blamed! Kevin started the business in 2002 - all these years later, Reedsafe is still trading and is still serving quite a few customers that were first served in 2002. We are not a "fly-by-night" operation.

Answer:

Portable Appliance Testing or to give it its proper title, In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment was introduced to allow businesses and companies to comply with the UK's Health and Safety laws. Some of the applicable legislation being The Health & Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 It is a legal requirement to have a policy of regular maintenance in operation which covers all your electrical appliances. P.A.T. more than meets this requirement when performed by a reputable person or company - such as Reedsafe! Of late, P.A.T. has gained a far higher presence in the workplace as many insurance companies, landlords, even colleges placing work experience students into a business insist that a P.A.T. policy & proper testing is in place as part of their conditions. Local Health and Safety authorities have also been known to impose fines on businesses where appliances in use by employees have not been properly tested or maintained. With the introduction of fire risk self assessments, having your electrical appliances tested regularly helps towards showing due-diligence on the business owner's part.
