Community Safety Event. Hoveton Village Hall

Reedsafe will be attending a Community Electrical Safety Event at Hoveton Village Hall on Sunday, 10th May 2026 between 9am and noon. Following on from the recent events held at Fleggburgh Village Hall, our next session will be in the larger village of Hoveton. Local residents are encouraged to bring along any electrical appliances they have that they would like professionally inspected for safety. Maybe an iron, sewing machine, kettle, electric blanket, extension lead, mower or strimmer, hedge cutter.

On recent events, we have discovered many incorrectly wired plugs (which we remedied at no cost to the equipment owner), appliances with dangerous cords, even a vacuum cleaner that caught fire! If an appliance fails a safety inspection and we are unable to perform a simple repair, a red fail label is attached and the appliance is handed back for the owner to dispose of, according to WEEE guidelines. Items that pass their inspection can be given a pass label. Please do be aware, no certification is provided during these events as they are not aimed at commercial ventures, purely domestic usage.

If you would like to attend, there is plenty of parking space, the sessions are unrushed, there is usually time for a chat, and you are most welcome to take away some leaflets concerning electrical safety in the home. The leaflets are provided by Electrical Safety First - we strongly encourgae you to read their excellent guide on Buying Electrical Goods Online.
